Woody's Home For Vets
  Our Services

Woody's Home for Veterans is a non-profit Christian based adult residential facility for chronically mentally ill veterans. Woody's Home began serving veterans in 2003 with the opening of our first home at 442 Jordan St. in Shreveport. Woody's Home has remained at full occupancy for some time, and continues to have veterans on the waiting list through the VA medical center. Although, other Community Residential Care facilities of this type do exist, the nearest is over 35 miles away and is therefore not an appropriate placement for residents with chronic medical conditions. Much need has been detailed by both Sherry Williams LCSW, CRC Coordinator, and Dean Robinson M.D., Medical Director Psychiatric Services Overton Brooks VA Medical Center. Our second facility at 448 Jordan St. opened its doors in December 2009.  Although much work has been completed, crucial home improvements have been on hold due to lack of resources.

Our veterans here at Woody's are the forgotten ones. Everyone remembers and supports the Vet who returns from overseas with an obvious physical handicap. Our residents left their time of service to our country with deep wounds not so visible to the naked eye. Conditions such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Depression brought about by the horrors of combat that can devastatingly and permanently alter one's life.

Woody's Home for Veterans is just that. A Home. A safe haven where our residents can feel safe, interact with one another, and continue to receive the care they need and deserve.

Please help us to continue to build on the dream we at Woody's all share, to remember those so often overlooked, with injuries not so readily seen.

Psalm 9:18 But the needy will not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the afflicted ever perish.
